North Texas Food Bank

Winter Storm Relief

The North Texas Food Bank is committed to supporting North Texans by providing access to nutritious foods. The cold weather conditions in February 2021 were historic and had devastating consequences for the surrounding communities. The North Texas Food Bank mobilized quickly to get as much nutritious food as possible out to the community and was able to do so thanks to philanthropic support via food, funds, time and advocacy.

Feeding Texas

Winter Storm Relief

Across 21 locations, Feeding Texas delivered nearly 250,000 pounds of food and water during the winter storm in February 2021. Feeding Texas and their network applied lessons learned during the COVID pandemic and were able to pivot and respond quickly across the state, making it possible for thousands of members of the community to benefit from the organization's assistance.

Red Cross

Excerpt from the thank you letter that we received:
"Across Texas, massive electrical outages left individuals and families unable to light and heat their homes, prepare meals or even access clean water. Powered by Sempra’s kindness, the Red Cross opened warming centers and provided safe shelter, nourishing meals and drinking water for impacted residents. Along with these essential services, Red Cross volunteers and employees also delivered sorely needed emotional support to people coping with the mental toll of this disaster. Together, we are making a real difference for those we serve when it is needed most."

Vision to Learn

COVID-19 Relief

In Los Angeles, CA, Vision to Learn delivered food to homebound seniors in low-income neighborhoods in the East and South Los Angeles regions. During its first week of deliveries, 2,000 meals were distributed by utilizing vans normally used for vision care services for low-income children at schools that had been closed.

Eyes on Me

COVID-19 Relief

In Houston, TX, Eyes on Me provided food boxes and delivered meals through partnerships with churches and local community centers.

Kitchens for Good

COVID-19 Relief

In San Diego, CA, Kitchens for Good produced approximately 12,000 hunger relief heat-and-eat meals each week for vulnerable seniors, displaced workers, low-income children and their families.

Excerpt from the thank you letter that we received:
"We are so incredibly grateful for your support to help us scale our hunger relief efforts. As of this week we are now producing over 10,000 meals a week (up from 2,000 before the pandemic). Our new goal is to reach 20,000 meals a week to help feed San Diegans in need. This would not be possible without the support of Sempra; thank you so much!"

Southeast Asian Community Alliance

COVID-19 Relief

In Los Angeles, CA, Southeast Asian Community Alliance provided meals and care packages to seniors and families impacted by COVID-19.

Excerpt from the thank you letter that we received:
"Yesterday we ended up handing out:
• 606 care packages
• 178 hot meals
• 21 produce bags
• 50 bags of frozen dumplings
The logistics of it were super challenging given that we had hot, refrigerated, AND frozen food in the same delivery! We'll be doing another delivery of hot meals on Saturday."

Conejo Valley Senior Concerns

COVID-19 Relief

In Thousand Oaks, CA, Conejo Valley Senior Concerns delivered meals, including hot lunches and light dinners, to fragile seniors who were self-isolating at home and unable to obtain food. In April of 2020 alone, the organization served 70% more clients in the Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark communities.

Excerpt from the thank you letter that we received:
"We are hearing from seniors who cannot get to the store, or to a food pantry, and are reaching out to use for home delivered meals and pantry items. We have created a pantry at Senior Concerns filled with shelf-stable foods, paper goods, cleaning supplies, and personal care products. Items have been donated by community members. We provide these items free of charge to low income seniors. We are also providing a shopping and errand service and are helping many seniors with grocery shopping. We do not charge for the shopping service; only for the cost of the groceries."
